500x_500x_itunes_lp_01.jpgContrary to our previous reporting, it looks as though Gizmodo has some sad news for all of you indie/unsigned acts that wanted to do an iTunes LP. I think we can easily say this move will put this format to death. LAME! From Gizmodo:

"I contacted the digital distribution manager at my label's distributor. He had a conference call with their iTunes rep at IODA and asked how we go about putting an LP together. He was told that LPs aren't being offered to indies and that there are only about 12 LPs being offered right now. They also said that iTunes charges a $10,000 production fee for them as well. So that pretty much edges out the indie market completely."

Above is a video from BandMetrics who participated in the Future Of Music Policy Summit. Over on their site they have some great links and recap details that you shouldn't miss to learn about some of what you missed this week.

The British Competition Commission has announced that they will deny the potential Live Nation & TicketMaster. This is great news for all concertgoers and one of the first nails in the coffin of one of the biggest threats to the music industry we have had since the majors couldn't figure out the Internet. Now we just have to hope the US will follow suit. For more go here.

How many times have you sat and debated who wrote a song that you are listening to? Well one of the ways that you can often find out who is credited as writing it, is to use iTunes. If you LEGALLY bought a song from iTunes, the file is usually encoded with info on it and if you click the get info button on a song it will reveal what you see above. This can solve plenty of fights and give you priceless information on your favorite songs.

Why, Axl, Why? You corn rowed little f*cker. First you make us wait 10 years to hear the unlistenable garbage that is Chinese Democracy, now we find out you totally stole a sample on it from poor little, defenseless Ulrich Schnauss. Well, I guess I shouldn't call him defenseless since he totally just sued you. Watch the two videos above and here the obvious proof that Axl and his gang of paid eye rollers copped a sample without asking.
convergeleak.pngAs you can see Converge are pretty mad about their new record leaking and have decided to call out the person who leaked it in hopes that they will not get promos in the future. What I wonder is will this inspire thanks from many of the pirates who are downloading it?

In a move that is sure to bolster the profile of crowdfunded site SellABand, Public Enemy will be using the site to fund their next release offering fans a share of the profits and hand numbered copies in exchange for their funding. Seeing as Pe is the largest band to utilize this service it is sue to be a big move for this service that could see more and more acts turning to this form of crowdfunding to get funds for their next release. For more go to MusicAlly.
metallica-iphone-200x300.jpgIn a move we are sure to see repeated by many bands with a good rep for live shows and a die hard fan base, your favorite mooks Metallica have released an iPhone App that will sell MP3s of their live shows around the world. The App will stream their latest concert or allow you to buy from their numerous back catalog of recorded concerts. Something we are sure to see from many artists in the near future.
